Open Access Adviser - Repositories Support Project (Fixed Term)

The Centre for Research Communications is helping to open access to research through research and development projects and supporting services which are used around the world. This post is an exciting opportunity to join the team of the CRC to work on the successful and highly regarded Repositories Support Project (RSP), see: www.rsp.ac.uk, which supports the development of the open access repository infrastructure in the UK.
The post will support the work of the RSP in outreach, strategic consultancy, operational advice and information provision in the field of repositories. Work will include research into significant issues, support of policy development and acting as an advocate of open access and related research communications on a national scale. The work will be varied, including liaison with a wide range of stakeholders; carrying out promotion campaigns and events; writing reports, briefing papers, fact sheets and support material. Being part of this very successful, high profile national project is a great opportunity to achieve personal success and recognition within an active and rapidly developing field.
You will work as part of the CRC team at the University of Nottingham, addressing a national and international community; the work will involve national and probably international travel.
Candidates should be educated to degree-level or equivalent. A postgraduate degree or diploma in librarianship or information science would be an advantage. Candidates need some familiarity with, and understanding of, web-based technologies and information support requirements and ideally will have a working background in an HE/research environment. Experience in academic libraries or research publishing would be a plus.

This full-time post is available from October 2010 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months.
The Centre for Research Communications is helping to open access to research through research and development projects and supporting services which are used around the world. This post is an exciting opportunity to join the team of the CRC to work on the successful and highly regarded SHERPA Services: OpenDOAR, ROMEO and JULIET which support the development of the open access repository infrastructure in the UK and worldwide.
The role provides development support and coordination of the Open Access Services based at the Centre for Research Communications, currently RoMEO, OpenDOAR and JULIET. The role will research, create, test and build sustainable business models based on community support for management and funding, building upon the worldwide usage and goodwill towards these services. The aim is to create and achieve sustainable business models and governance structures for the future.
These services are acknowledged as essential to the Open Access community. The OASC will work with a variety of stakeholders - institutional management teams, funding bodies, publishers, learned societies and academics - to advance the development of the services. The scope and scale of the projects means that the role has an impact on scholarly communication across the HE sector and internationally.
Technical Developer - Open Access Services (Fixed-term)

This full-time post will be available from October 2010 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months.
The Centre for Research Communications is helping to open access to research through research and development projects and supporting services which are used around the world. This post is an exciting opportunity to join the team of the CRC to work on the successful and highly regarded SHERPA Services: OpenDOAR, ROMEO and JULIET which support the development of the open access repository infrastructure in the UK and worldwide.
This post has a focus on OpenDOAR, which is a trusted, valued and essential part of the open access environment, giving information on the spread of repositories around the world. OpenDOAR provides a comprehensive and authoritative list of open access academic repositories broken down by locale, content or other measures. See: http://www.opendoar.org. We are currently seeking a Technical Developer (OAS) to support and develop the OpenDOAR service and contribute to other CRC technical services, solutions, websites etc. The role will include: maintenance and development of the service; interface; API; content; user-relations, technical development on harvesting repository information, record counts, statistical displays and presentation of results, development of ideas and software solutions for improved services and integration with other services and institutional systems, liaison with the user community and repository managers worldwide and presentations at workshops and conferences as required.
The project requires a highly motivated Technical Developer with extensive experience in LAMP stack technologies, web development and related software, able to both develop the technical service and work with stakeholders within the larger context of the service as supporting open access to research materials. This work addresses an international community and will involve national and possibly some international travel.
Candidates should be educated to degree-level in computing or equivalent. A postgraduate degree or diploma in information science would be an advantage. Candidates will ideally have a working background in an HE/research environment. Experience in academic libraries or research publishing would be an advantage.
