Selected research funders' grant expenditure |
The introduction of research mandates represents a significant economic underpinning of OA materials. This page will gather information on research funders grant expenditure as it relates to OA. We would like to develop this table further to include all funders listed in JULIET. If you are a research funder and would like details of your institution to be included in this table please contact the JULIET Administrators.
Information for the UK
Currently the page only contains figures for UK Research Councils, taken from the Research Councils Standard Research Grant Spend 2007-2008.
Research Councils UK
In the Year 2007 - 2008 a total of £0.76billion of research funding was released with an accompanying OA policy.
|
From this data we can see that:
A total of £1.2billion was provided by UK research councils in the period 2007-2008
A total of £0.76billion of this funding is under an OA policy
This represents 61.3% of RCUK funding. In 2007-2008, six out of seven of the RCUK councils had an OA policy; the exception was EPSRC which is reponsible for "big science" and therefore represents over 38% by value of research funding. The EPSRC has now released an open access policy.
