Increasing Nottinghams Research Impact Through Open Access Event - Thursday 11 October 2007, 10:30-13:00
Over recent years, there has been a growing interest in Open Access methods of publication and dissemination, where research outputs are made freely available to the reader. Recently, a number of the UK research councils and several important independent funders (including the Wellcome Trust) have introduced policies requiring grant recipients to ensure their research outputs are made available via an open access route. Thus, there is an increasing need for academics to understand the issues associated with open access in particular and research communication in general in order to ensure that they can comply with their funders' requirements.
A major event has been organised at the University of Nottingham on 11 October to explore these issues. The event will include presentations outlining the University's policies in this area and clarifying support available to University staff. Presentations will be given by Nottingham and external speakers, including the Manager of the major bio-medical repository UKPMC. The Event Programme is given below. (event programme).
The University of Nottingham has benefited over recent years from hosting the award-winning SHERPA team which as well as carrying out research and development activity in the area of open access also manages the University of Nottingham's open access repositories for research papers and theses.

Lunch will be provided after the event and members of the SHERPA team will be on hand to discuss any areas with which you and your School may need assistance.
If you, or any of your colleagues, are interested in attending, then please notify Gareth Johnson (gareth.johnson@nottingham.ac.uk) of the names before Thursday 4 October.
Please note this is an internal event for University of Nottingham Staff only.
